Introducing....... My New Friend Caden!

Meet my NEW friend Cadan!

Welcome back to the Polka Clubhouse, everyone! I am super excited to introduce you to Cadan. I met him at the same festival where I saw T-Bone! I was very happy to be able to do two interviews at one festival!

Cadan is super talented! He works in one of the vending tents with his family! When he takes a break from working in the tent he goes all around the festival doing all kinds of fun activities. He got his face painted, played laser tag, and did tons of cool things in the kids area. I hope you enjoy meeting Cadan!

Meet T-Bone!!!!!!

My friend T-Bone is on the far right!!!!!!

Check out my new video to learn all about my good friend T-Bone!

The Chardon Polka Band has a very good friend! His name is T-Bone! We recently played a show near T-Bone's home town and invited him to play on stage with us for the entire show. Then he offered for us to stay at his house while we were there. We were so excited that we would get to see our good friend! We all had such a blast together.

When I found out that we were going to be sharing our time at such a fun festival with our amazing friend, T-Bone I just knew it would be an amazing opportunity for an interview. This interview could have gone on for hours because there is just endless things to talk about with T-Bone! Here are some fun facts about him that didn't make it into the interview:

-He has a huge collection of trombones in his basement and can play all of them!
-He is an artist and has painted many beautiful pieces over the years!
-He has two super cute dogs and loves them very much!
-He has speakers for his CD player in every room of his house including the basement and outside so that he can blast his tunes as loud as he wants!!!!!!

Its so nice to have good friends and to keep in touch with them over the years. T-Bone is someone we make sure to keep in contact with!

Meet Cassandra!

Check out my cool new video. You can learn all about my new friend Cassandra!

Cassandra and I at the festival!

Cassandra is a very talented 8 year old girl whom I met while playing a festival in the Poconos this summer. She wears traditional german clothing and dances in an amazing group called HSV Bavaria (Harugari Schuhplattler Verein Bavaria)The group has participated in parades, performed on boats and floats, amusement parks, casinos, clubs, churches, and convalescent homes throughout Connecticut and neighboring states.

This Schuhplattler group travels all around to perform and share the beautiful dances of Germany with the world. A Schuhplattler is a traditional folk dance popular in the alpine regions of Bavaria and Austria.

Cassandra has been traveling with this group since she was just a baby because both of her parents are members of the group as well. She loves dancing with the group and learning all of the steps to each dance. She is also the brave and courageous announcer for HSV Bavaria.

Cassandra and I had a great time at the festival together. I was so excited that I got time to interview her and learn so much more about her! We had a blast!

We found this huge pig and just had to take a picture with it!

I am so happy that you will get a chance to meet Cassandra as well! She is so much fun! I love how excited she is about dancing with HSV Bavaria! Cassandra is so talented!

Flying in an Airplane!

Hello Friends!

Have you ever flown in an airplane

I seem to fly all the time now. In fact, I'm headed to the airport right now! I'm in Colorado about to fly home to Chardon, Ohio.

I wanted to chat with you about flying. I remember the first time I ever flew on an airplane! I was 22 years old and going to visit a friend in Colorado. It was a 3 hour long flight. I was so scared and nervous to fly. I got to the airport super early so there was no way I would be late.

Security: I had to go through security! I was so afraid! I had to put all of my belongings into a plastic box on this rolling table so they could put it through an xray machine and look at it. I had to empty all my pockets and take off my shoes as well as my belt! Then I pushed my plastic boxes into the xray machine. Next thing I knew this lady was asking me to step through a metal detector. I was so worried. I thought that if I set off the detector I wouldn't be able to get on the plane or I would be late. But, I walked right through and nothing happened. No sounds or sirens or people telling me I couldn't go. So I put my shoes and belt back on and walked to my gate where the airplane would pull up.

The Airplane: The plane arrived and it was time to get on! There were so many people. I got on and found my seat and stashed my carry-on bag up above my seat. I had a window seat and there were two people next to me. One man near the aisle way and a woman in between him and I. This woman was awesome! She brought her little dog!!!!! He was in a tiny carrier and he fit right under her seat! So I talked to her for a while and told her this was my very first flight and I was pretty scared for take off. She helped me out though. She told me exactly what was going to happen and I wasn't as afraid anymore.

Take-off: The plane drove around the runway for a little bit and then all of a sudden we were going really really really super fast and I was watching out the window. Then I could feel the front wheel lift off the ground and it felt like we were driving up a super steep mountain. We were actually climbing up into the air! It was not even a little bit scary!!!!! It was awesome. Then I looked out the window and saw all the cars and houses and swimming pools becoming smaller and smaller as they became father away!

Smaller....
and smaller....
and smaller...
and smaller...
and smaller!

Flight: I saw the sun come up over the clouds! We were riding on top of the clouds! They were so big and puffy! They looked like big white comfy mountains! A flight attendant came down the aisle and handed out a free orange juice and a small bag of pretzels!! Yum! Then I was a little tired from taking so many pictures and watching so many clouds so I took a nap.

Landing: The airplane started getting closer to the ground and it felt funny! Like when you drive over a "tummy tickler" on the road! Then we flew right over top of some trees and were on the runway. I was scared to land because I thought it would feel like a huge crash when we hit the ground. I told my new friend with the dog that I was scared and she said it would hardly be noticeable. She was right! When the wheels of the airplane touched the ground it just felt like a small bump in the road. No big deal!

Then I thanked my new friend with the dog for all her help and got off the airplane!! What an amazing trip.

So if you have to for the first time and you are scared. Don't worry because it will be so cool!

Here are some cool pictures I took on my latest flight! I took a picture of the captain's cabin from the aisle and then they invited me in to take more pictures!!!!! That's right they let me in the captain's cabin. I got to sit in the pilot's seat!

Check out all those buttons and knobs and gadgets!
My hand is on the steering!

The captains who let me come in and check out their cabin!

I am very excited because today is my very first video blog post!!!!!! I always knew it was a lot of work to edit a video but, I never imagined it would be so much FUN! I had an awesome time interviewing my new friend, Calista, and putting this video together.

Calista and I at the Polka show!

Calista came to one of our polka shows because her dad, Joe, was playing the drums. I saw her having such a great time in the audience and I just had to meet her and learn more about her. That was when I decided to interview her and share all of her awesomeness with you as well. I could sit here and tell you all about her but, the video will do an even better job. Did you ever wonder how a saxophone is made??????

I have played instruments all my life and was always curious as to how they were made. I know you are probably wondering how they are made too!!!!! Today you will get your answer! In the Chardon Polka Band I play the saxophone and the flute. Today we get to see how a saxophone is made! Take a look at these super cool pictures and then watch the awesome video of a saxophone being made!

Every saxophone's parts look exactly the same!
This picture shows some of the keys and springs before they are put on to the instrument.

This worker has to put the keys on to the saxophone! SO MANY KEYS! (20-23 depending on the type of saxophone!)

This picture shows a super old factory where saxophones were built! They are even hanging from the ceiling.

Who knew a saxophone was so much work to make!

These huge metal presses bend the brass into the perfect shape.

So many different parts!

Check out his AMAZING video! These workers turn a sheet of brass into a beautiful saxophone! I think that is crazy cool. These metal workers are EXTREMELY TALENTED. Everything they do has to be done just right in order for the saxophone to work well when it is completed. You will see in the video how they check over their work multiple times. At the end of the process, the new saxophones are even tested by a professional to see if they play well!

Did you know???????  -Adolphe Sax invented the saxophone in the 1800's.

I am so happy that Adolphe invented the saxophone!!!!!! Now I get to play my tenor saxophone and create super fun polka music on it everyday!!!!!

Breakfast! The most important meal of the day!

Breakfast is definitely the most important meal of the day and my personal FAVORITE meal! Let's talk about why it is such an important meal!

A Good Breakfast makes you:
1- Energized
2- Smarter
3- Grow huge strong muscles
4- Not "Ruin your dinner"
5- Grow big and strong
6- Skip your nap time
7- Play and have fun longer
8- Happy
9- Wake up faster

Without a Good Breakfast you are:
1- Whiney
2- Angry
3- Sad
4- Tired
5- Hungry
6- Weak
7- Lazy

Today I played a 4.5hr polka show with the band and we knew we would need energy so we all got up and journeyed to an excellent breakfast buffet! They had everything you could possibly imagine to eat!! We all made sure to eat really well and I am glad we did because we just finished our polka show and I still have plenty of energy to go have fun the rest of the band!

Make sure you eat a good breakfast everyday!
